HERON Won the 112 Annual Excellent Manufacturer's Award for Innovative Products in Hsinchu Science Park.

HERON has won the“112 Annual Excellent Vendor Innovation Product Award” for “Accelerator Boron Neutron Capture Cancer Treatment System (AB-BNCT)” organized by the Hsinchu Science Park Administration of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) this year and the award ceremony was held in the Hsinchu Science Association on December 15, 2012. The award was presented by Mr. Y.J. Wang, the director of the Administration. We were also invited to participate in the 43rd Anniversary Celebration of Hsinchu Science Park.

The Hsinchu Science Park Administration has been organizing the selection of the Outstanding Manufacturer's Innovative Product Award, which encourages manufacturers in the Park to engage in innovative research and development of new products to enhance technological standards and strengthen the competitiveness of the industry for more than 20 years. After a four-month review period, HERON's Accelerator Boron Neutron Capture Cancer Treatment System (AB-BNCT) won the Outstanding Product Award.

Heron Technology has integrated the experience from Tsinghua University and ITRI to develop AB-BNCT technology, which is beyond the traditional radiation therapy, combining heavy particles and targeted boron drugs to “accurately” kill cancer cells, which can reduce the side effects of treatment and realize precise radiation therapy, bringing the hope for patients. It`s first time to develop and manufacture large-scale medical in Taiwan and it takes a long time and many resources to develop and commercialize the device. However, Taiwan's talent and biomedical research and development capacity is abundant, gathering cross-field resources and talents, HERON has gradually moved towards the commercialization.

The first AB-BNCT system in Taiwan was built at the Hsinchu Hospital of the Chinese University. The BNCT center has been completed, and the system has been licensed for trial operation by the Nuclear Safety Commission. Trial operation and debugging of the equipment are in progress, including accelerator function testing and proton beam performance testing, followed by neutron beam testing, with the primary goal of obtaining a medical device license in Taiwan.

 

HERON has won the National Innovation Award, the Taipei Biotechnology Award, and the Excellent Manufacturer Innovative Product Award, which is the highest recognition of HERON. We are emerging in Taiwan's biomedical industry and committed to developing cell-level precision radiotherapy technology to improve cancer treatment effectiveness and the life quality of patients.
