International Radiation Experts Visit HERON Boron Neutron Capture Treatment Center

Heron Technology's Boron Neutron Capture Treatment Center has started the Accelerator Boron Neutron Capture Treatment (AB-BNCT) technology and equipment cooperation with the Chinese Medical University since 2019. The treatment center will be completed in May 2023, HERON officially obtained the Nuclear Energy Safety Administration (NESA) High Intensity Radiation Facility (HEIF) Trial Operation Permit in September 2023, and the system is currently undergoing the Trial Operation and Neutron Beam Test, which is the first AB-BNCT in Taiwan. Advancements in Precision Radiation Therapies and Emerging Technologies in Medical Physics, organized by the Atomic Sciences of Tsinghua University, invited experts of International Commission on Radiation (ICRU) to visit the conference. On the afternoon of March 7, Vincent Grégoire led a group of 10 members of the ICRU, accompanied by Chi-Shiun Chiang, Dean of Nuclear Science of National Tsing Hua University, and Dr. Tzu-Chen Yen, Chang Gung Nuclear Medicine Department to visit the BNCT Center of Heron Technology at the Hsinchu Hospital of China Medical University.

Hermes-Epitek's original intention of investing in Heron Technology was to bring AB-BNCT's world-class medical equipment to Taiwan. Since 2017, HERON has been committed to the development of AB-BNCT technology, extending the BNCT technology base that has been developed in Taiwan for nearly 25 years, and realizing the industrialization of scientific research and promoting to the medical market, so that the medical technology can benefit more cancer patients. Our vision is that through innovative BNCT treatment solutions, patients can be cured, maintain their quality of life, and extend the length and width of life.

This is the first to develop and manufacture large-scale medical equipment in Taiwan. R&D and commercialization require a long period of time and the investment from various parties. With the investment from Hermes-Epitek and the integration of talent, technology, and experience, HERON is going to make cutting-edge and precise medical equipment in Taiwan.
